Down here in Texas we’ve had the first taste of cooler fall weather, so it’s time to think about getting outside once again and taking a road trip. If you are a first-time visitor to Formaspace, welcome aboard. First, a bit of a disclaimer. If you’ve come here looking for interior furniture for your home, we might or might not be exactly what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for industrial chic furniture for your home or office, we sell our steel computer tables and workbenches — built right here at our factory in Austin, Texas — directly to the public.
You can get the same high-quality industrial-strength furniture that we sell to our manufacturing, distribution and laboratory life science customers, such as Apple Computer, Boeing, Dell, Ford, General Electric, Medronic, NASA, Novartis, and more.
Many architects, interior and industrial designers love the way Formaspace furniture looks in high-tech offices, conference rooms, tricked out garages, or high-tech kitchens. We can easily customize our furniture just for you (with short turnaround times since our factory is here in the USA, not overseas in China). We can also incorporate custom materials, such as top-quality hardwood maple surfaces. So to recap, we are not a typical, mainstream interior design furniture manufacturing company. We sell direct to you via our website or by calling us at 800.251.1505.
First Stop, Interior Furnishings on Display at High Point Market
You won’t find us exhibiting at High Point Market in North Carolina when the Fall market opens this weekend. But that doesn’t mean we don’t love all kinds of furniture. And we love to keep in touch with what’s happening in the furniture industry. So with that disclaimer out of the way, let’s hit the road and make our first stop to preview the interior furnishings on display at High Point Market starting this weekend.
Social media has added a new dimension to trend spotting in fashion. Here, a large group of designers come together in a Google hangout discussion to review the latest trends from the Spring 2015 High Point Market. You’ll also find a lot of shoppers posting so-called ‘haul’ videos on YouTube where they brag about their recent purchases.
Blue tones and natural fabric prints seem to be a major trend at the Spring High Point Market. We’re curious to see if this trend continues when the Fall market opens this weekend.
Tom Conley, President CEO High Point Market Authority, feels that more furniture manufacturing is starting to come back to the US, particularly as labor costs in China are rising. For quite a number of years it was difficult to buy furniture made in the USA. In that respect, Formaspace is a pioneer. We established our factory here in Austin and have always built our furniture in the USA.
Next Stop, Round Top Antique Show in Round Rock, Texas
The next stop in our road trip is closer to home. Round Rock, Texas is a rural farm community in central Texas just east of Austin. Over the years, more and more antique and collectible dealers have congregated along the farm roads leading in and out of Round Rock.
Like High Point Market in North Carolina, Round Top has a spring and a fall market. Some vendors sell their keepsakes under the open Texas sky while others pull out party tents or build semi-permanent structures to sell their wares. Marburger Farm is one of the more established locations. Here you can find high-priced antiques as well as shabby chic and country styles. There are also plenty of furniture and decorative items created out of recycled materials. When you come to visit, you’re sure to meet some bigger-than-life Texas-sized characters at Round Rock. We hope to see you next time!
