As with all metal finishes the quality of the finished product is directly related to the quality of the steel surface preparation. Traditional methods of preparing steel for powder coat involve harsh chemicals, most of which have HIGH VOC content and pose a threat to the environment and to the health and safety of the people who work with the chemicals.
Formaspace was determined to develop a novel process in steel preparation that had the following criteria:
- No toxic chemicals
- No flash point
- NO VOCs emitted during the entire process
- No health risks
- No Hazardous Waste generated
- Produce a superior finish with improved durability
We were able to design a process that met all of the above criteria, and produce a finish that is second to none — meeting or exceeding tests for:
- Adhesion
- Hardness
- Appearance
- Reproducibility
Our cleaning process was designed in cooperation with the Austin Water Utility and all waste products were sent to an independent laboratory analysis. The cleaning process meets all federal, state and local regulations for sanitary sewer disposal. The wastewater from our plant is cleaner than the wastewater from most homes. We build products that are safe for our staff, our customers and the world we share.
